What is an example of Gandhi being peaceful?

Various times, he was beaten by Englishmen, but he did not fight back. Instead, he used his words to point out the rights and wrongs. In addition, he never started a riot, but rather, gave speeches. Another strong example of Gandhi spreading peace, is his strike on food and clothing manufactured by the English, as he was against the British ruling over India. Thus, he never used violence, but rather, his will power, words and the power of unity of that country to gain independence over the British rule.
